Traveling upstate every weekend is about a 300 mile round trip. That's a lot of CO2 we're putting out. Not very green. That is one of the reasons we bought our car, its a 1985 Mercedes 300TD Turbo Diesel wagon. We bought it on Ebay about 6 months ago. Its a lovely Midnight Blue color and so we nicknamed the car ( we nickname everything ) Inky. Our idea is to convert the car to bio-diesel and make our own fuel from recycled vegetable oil. Our friend Darryl converted his to run off of Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO), hopefully we can convince him to write a few posts in the future about his experiences. We want to do this not as a cost savings measure, because like all renewable energy sources the up front costs for doing them can be expensive but instead to reduce our CO2 footprint. Bio-diesel releases many less pollutants into the air and the ones they do release are easier for the environment to cope with. While we wait to convert the car we decided to try and offset the CO2 we are releasing through buying a TerraPass , they sponsor many renewable projects that offset all of the CO2 emissions from driving, flying, homes and business. TerraPass is doing some good too, they sponsor diverse projects that include biomass energy production and wind power energy. They just started a partnership with Enterprise Car Rental to offer the TerraPass product to customers. We can't say we're really "Green" but we are trying to make better choices.
